PRODUCT PRINCIPLES
These product principles are my foundations for product-design decision making.
Don’t make me think - users come to the product with specific intentions. At any point, the choices and constraints laid out for a user should be clear. Users will give up from 1000 little frustrations. Guide users to built confidence, trust, fluency, and comfort.
Be a good host - save guests a step, consider all guests and their abilities. No orphaned features or users. Own the entire experience, putting the guest first.
Get moving, now! - Point, shoot, reassess, reset, repeat. Build momentum. Focus on the most impactful thing right now.
Prototype the path - Prototypes are questions, not answers. Put the hypothesis into the hands of users as fast as possible, so that we can test and iterate with greater speed, confidence, and impact. Prototype the edge of the hypothesis
Seek the steepest part of the utility curve - keep in mind the relationship between effort and value to avoid diminishing returns. Do fewer things better. Innovate for non-linear results with the highest impact.
Ship what you love and are proud
Utility + Accessibility + Craft = Greatness - It must be functional. It must usable. It serves the intended purpose to get the job done. It must be pleasant to use. Craft includes visual design excellence, natural movement, a familiar voice, and responsive interactivity.
